The research against Covid-19 has produced some incredible results about cbd and cbda

During the past few years, scientists have been studying the effects of cannabis on the body, especially CBD. The benefits of CBD and its anti-inflammatory qualities, as well as the role it plays in treating chronic pain, have been extensively researched in recent years.

In spite of this, cannabis does not only produce THC and CBD, which are by far the cannabinoids best known to the general public. In February, Professor Van Breemen and his colleagues at Oregon State University and Oregon Health and Science University were able to identify two more molecules produced by cannabis plants, thanks to a study conducted by professor Van Breemen.

Researchers studied CBDA (cannabidiolic acid), CBGA (cannabigerolic acid), and their interactions with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and concluded that these two cannabinoids may provide some protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection. The study was published in “Journal of Natural Products”, and was entitled: “Cannabinoids Block Cellular Entry of SARS-CoV-2 and Emerging Variants”.

CBGA and CBDA during COVID-19 research

Covid research undertaken by Professor Van BreemenDuring his research at Oregon State University’s Health & Science Division, Professor Van Breemen and his team focused their attention on two lesser-known cannabinoids, CBGA and CBDA, which caused them to discover that they could prevent the COVID-19 virus from entering human cells: CBGA and CBDA in fact, are capable of binding to the spike protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

For the same reason that vaccinations and antibody-based therapies work, the researchers found that this link could prevent the virus from infecting human cells. This is of extreme importance in the context of the study since the researchers stated that these cannabinoids may also be effective against new forms of the virus, which they referred to as something that health authorities and doctors are very anxious about during this epidemic.

In the experiment, the scientists found that CBDA and CBGA molecules inhibited the action of the emerging COVID-19 viruses that caused the virus to emerge in the first place in the experiment. Additionally, these hemp compounds were equally effective against all known variations of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the most notable examples being variant B.1.1. B.1.1. B.1.1.27 (the Delta variant), which was first identified in the UK, and variant B.1.351 (the Omicron variant), which was first identified in South Africa.

According to Van Breemen, any element of the cycle of infection and replication is potentially a target for antiviral intervention. This study suggests that ECAC, an entry inhibitor that inhibits the insertion of viral particles into human cells in order to reduce disease by infection with SARS-CoV-2 and also to reduce disease by preventing virus particles from entering human cells, is a vital step in getting that cell entry inhibitor to work, which may have profound implications for the management of SARS-CoV-2.

The parasite attaches itself to spike proteins and prevents them from binding to ACE2, an enzyme commonly seen on the outer membrane of endothelial cells in the lungs and other organs.

“These cannabinoid acids, such as CBD and CBDA are abundant in cannabis. They do not fall under a chemical ban just like THC, and have an exceptionally high safety profile in human consumption.”

Van Breemen

Van Breemen mentions that further research will be necessary to convert CBD into drugs that can be used as treatments or prevention for Covid-19.

“With these chemicals being able to be taken orally and having an extremely long history of safe use in humans, we have the possibility of preventing and treating SARS-CoV-2 infections. It is these developments that open up new paths towards prevention and treatment of this disease that has been causing discomfort all around the world for quite a while now.”

We’re excited to note that one of the most exciting aspects of this research is that CBD cannabis products are available in massive numbers. Despite being used for many years with no known negative side effects, these products are still very popular on the market today. As a consequence, CBDA and CBGA cannabinoids are currently available on the market, which has the potential to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection shortly.

There is an important point to be noted, however, that Professor Van Breemen’s experiment was conducted on human cells cultured in vitro. There is no way to tell whether or not the results are reproducible in a living human organism, such as when CBDA and CBGA are injected directly into the bloodstream, which is the classic method of using cannabis. There is room for further experimentation and clinical trials for CBD, CBDA and more.
